Otra / Another en su versión 09 explora las diversas formas de nuestra infraestructura contemporánea y futura en todas sus variantes. Creemos que la condición urbana actual a lo largo de la mayoría de los continentes, predispone a la infraestructura(s) a existir en un estado de crisis. Consideramos que la infraestructura forma parte de los sistemas urbanos y las organizaciones políticas espaciales que de alguna forma u otra mantienen las funciones operativas de nuestras ciudades. Estas incluyen las redes de comunicación, las zonas económicas, las instituciones culturales, así como las actividades informales que sobreviven por medio de la apropiación de sistemas de infraestructura para su supervivencia. Desde Detroit a Los Ángeles y Ciudad de México a Mumbai, las actividades urbanas contemporáneas están cambiando nuestra percepción de la infraestructura como algo más que una red física construida por el Estado. Otra /Another 09 explora estrategias de intransigencia dentro de la disciplina (y más allá) que intentan recrear y reconsiderar nuestra relación con nuestro medio ambiente urbano.
Otra/Another 09 explore the various forms of current and future INFRASTRUCTURE in all its variations. We believe that the current urban condition across continents is forcing our infrastructure(s) into critical states of distress. We consider infrastructure to be part of urban systems and political spatial organizations that in some form or another sustain the operative functions of our cities. These include communication networks, economic zones and cultural institutions as well as informal activities dependent on the sequestering of infrastructural networks for their survival. From Detroit to Los Angeles, and from Mexico City to Mumbai, contemporary urban activities are reshaping our perception of infrastructure as something more than state-built physical networks. Otra/Another 09 explores the resilient strategies within the discipline (and beyond) to recreate and rethink our relationship with our urban environment.
